So what DO you like?

Yesterday the kids and I were at a playground when a friendly boy about Jed's age walked up to Jed and asked if he likes Power Rangers. Jed gave a slightly scornful no. The kid then wanted to know if he likes Pokemon. Slightly scornful no again. "So what DO you like?" "I like the British!" Oh, of course! The poor kid looked at me all puzzled and wanted to know if I could tell him what he likes. I gave some vague answer, because I was definitely not feeling up to giving the ten-second version of who the British are and why Jed likes them. I guess this story illustrates one of the beauties of homeschooling: kids can choose for themselves what they're interested in, not what's popular at school or what's considered cool. Of course we're thrilled that he's so fascinated by history, but in a school setting that might not be considered completely normal or cool, which is kind of sad!

We're having Derrick and Wesley over for dinner tonight to celebrate Wesley's birthday. It's always a treat to have the "uncles" over. The kids adore them. The other day at church Chloe sat in Uncle Wesley's lap for probably 20 minutes, just as still and quiet as can be. Can she sit with you every Sunday, Wesley? You're the only one that can work that kind of magic with her. :-)

Way to be yourself, Jed. "I like the British!!" That is honestly too much, Jill. The BRITISH?!?!? Good job, homeschooling Mommy!!!

Someday I'd like to see the Power Rangers fight the British.

Hooray for children having their OWN ideas and preferences and not just what their "friends" are into!

Wow, that's a conversation stopper among the younger set! Very funny... very Jed! Similarly, Stuart hasn't yet figured out that nobody else knows who the heck Odin and Hades are.

What a great story, and Sarah's comment is priceless.

As for Chloe, well maybe not quite every week... :)
